Eyestrain symptoms explained
Tired eyes
Eyes can feel strained or sore. There can be a sensation of aching around the outside for the eyes. In fact, some people feel the need to close their tired eyes.
Headaches
Lots of eyestrain patients at our clinic suffer headaches. These can feel like an ache above the eyebrows, or near the eyes. Eyestrain can also cause the eyes to feel a ‘pulling’ sensation or a feeling of pressure behind or around the eyes.
Blurred or double vision
Sometimes tired eyes have trouble focusing on objects. Indeed, this can result in blurry vision, or even double vision.
Watery eyes
When eyestrain occurs it can also be accompanied by watery eyes. This symptom is not serious and will usually ease when the eyes are rested.
Diagnosing eyestrain symptoms
Optometrists detect eyestrain by clinically checking your eye function.
Diagnosing your eyestrain symptoms in Sydney
You might suspect you have eyestrain based on the classic symptoms. However, our Sydney optometrists can detect the clinical signs like eye muscle imbalance.
Eyestrain can be clinically diagnosed by our Sydney-based optometrists. However, it’s worth noting that the clinical signs of eye strain are subtle so a comprehensive eye test is required to make a firm diagnosis.
The clinical signs of eyestrain include:
- Inflammation or redness of the conjunctiva (the clear covering of the white of the eye).
- Reduced visual acuity.
- Eye muscle imbalance.
- Too little or too much aqueous (watery) tears.
- Signs of surface irritation.
