Most red eye conditions should not be treated using Chlorsig, despite it often being recommended by doctors and pharmacists. Red eye conditions are prone to misdiagnosis and wrongly using Chlorsig can prolong red eye symptoms.

What is Chlorsig?
Chlorsig is a broad spectrum antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections in the eye. It is available without prescription (over the counter at pharmacies) as either eye drops or an ointment.
Antibacterial Chlorsig has no effect on the most common causes of red eyes.
Why Chlorsig might not work
Chlorsig does not work if red eyes have been incorrectly diagnosed by healthcare practitioners.
In fact, Chlorsig will not help the most common causes of red eyes: dry eyes, allergies, inflammation or viral infections.
This is because Chlosig is a broad spectrum antibiotic and not the right treatment for common red eye conditions. Rather, it can prolong the symptoms.
What’s more, misusing Chlorsig can even harm eye health by encouraging antibiotic resistance. In some cases (when combined with contact lens use) it can result in blindness.
How to fix red eyes
Only a clinical optometrist or ophthalmologist can correctly diagnose your red eye symptoms and provide relief.
Our optometrists have slit-lamp biomicroscopes used to examine red eyes and make an accurate diagnosis.
When we know what is causing your red eyes we can prescribe the right treatment.
